Despite becoming a very popular effect in live events, from rock concerts to football matches, use of the CO2 blast or cryo jet is often carefully considered due to its environmental impact. To counteract this, the team at Magic FX have created a more environmentally friendly, cost-effective solution – the ECO2JET.
Previously other smoke effects were not able to compete with the speed and impact of CO2, but the ECO2JET’s high-speed turbo fan and powered white smoke effect creates an authentic CO2 blast look. Magic FX have also developed two types of fluid – one for indoor and the other for outdoor use. This avoids the need for carbon dioxide completely, which comes in heavy metal containers, is costly and needs a specialist courier to transport. On top of this, you can get a huge 13 minutes of smoke from one 5l can of fluid; equivalent to 13 large CO2 bottles. The smoke liquid used in the ECO2JET is created from distilled water and creates a thick white smoke effect that disappears quickly, just like CO2. Another advancement that has been achieved is the volume level, with a lower output noise of 95dB compared to a CO2 jet which averages 115dB. As well as this, the smoke effect doesn’t depend on humidity, for example, at an outdoor festival when the sun is shining, the ECO2JET smoke still reaches 12m, compared to CO2, which would top out at around 4m.
The ECO2JET marks yet another product release highlighting Magic FX’s commitment to sustainable effects. After introducing the world’s first TÜV-certified biodegradable confetti last year, the events industry has made a positive step in making special effects more sustainable. Here at Entertainment Effects, we are committed to sustainability and offsetting our carbon emissions by using renewable energy at our warehouse, recycling initiatives, switching to a renewable propane, using more efficient smoke fluid rather than CO2 and partnering with My Carbon Plan to plant new trees. We’re always on the lookout for new products that will help us to achieve our sustainability goals.
