As the most popular sport UK and worldwide, it’s no wonder football teams and associations choose to celebrate their achievements in the beautiful game with extravagant special effects to create jaw-dropping and crowd-pleasing displays.

Here’s our look back at some of the craziest football title celebrations in recent years.

St Kilda FC Pride Match 2018

The 2018 Pride Game hosted by St Kilda FC at Etihad Stadium against the Sydney Swans was held to support and celebrate the LGBTIQ community. The event featured a rainbow of colours throughout, as a celebration of gender diversity, from the players’ rainbow socks and guernseys, through to the rainbow lights and banners, and the icing on the cake – rainbow streamers shot into the crowd from 14 cannons positioned around the stadium.

Richmond FC AFL Grand Final

In 2017, Richmond FC celebrated their AFL Grand Final win against Adelaide FC in Melbourne with confetti in their team colours of yellow and black, timed to rain down in a blaze of colour as the players collected their trophy to the cheers of the crowd. American rock band The Killers headlined the entertainment line-up, and Richmond player Jack Riewoldt even jumped in to perform with the band when they returned to the ground for a free concert after Richmond’s win.

Real Madrid’s Champions League celebrations

When Champions League Final winners Real Madrid returned home victorious in 2018, they were treated to a heroes’ welcome in Madrid city centre with an open-topped bus parade through thousands of cheering fans, a shower of white confetti, and a jaw-dropping fireworks display.

Soccer Aid 2019

The annual fundraising football match in aid of UNICEF took place at Stamford Bridge in June 2019, pitting celebrities against each other as England took on the World. The World XI lifted the winners’ trophy after a tense penalty shoot-out to a cascade of streamers shot out of a cannon, and against a stunning flame show backdrop. The high-impact visual show was ideal for capturing the media’s attention and created just the right celebratory atmosphere for the winning team.

The special effects behind the celebrations

The high-impact visual delight created by special effects like fireworks displays and confetti cannons make them ideal for celebration of football and other sporting achievements and special events. For football matches where crowd numbers are in their thousands, pyrotechnics are another impactful way of capturing audience attention, making an important event or achievement even more memorable.
