How do you make your end-of-season sporting event even more exciting? With any luck, the penultimate game or match was a bit of a cliff-hanger, meaning you’ll get a bigger crowd through the gates and what happens on the field will provide all the excitement – but you can’t guarantee it. This is why it’s always worth considering increasing the impact using SFX to keep the motivation high, hopefully resulting in a great result!
It’s no coincidence that the big league sporting events use special effects to wow the crowds on big match days. When Chelsea played Benfica at home, we used flame machines and pyrotechnics to welcome players onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge. We’ve used similar effects for Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, using a combination of flame jets to welcome players onto the pitch.
We have also done a lot of work with rugby clubs, providing effects regularly at Saracens, Harlequins and Scottish Rugby. For the Women’s Rugby World Cup, we provided the effects for all 32 games that took place, including the Final and the trophy presentation ceremony.

Special FX are for all sizes of sport clubs
You don’t have to be playing in elite, national or international sports events to be able to spice things up a bit with special effects. Not only will it make the last match of the season more enjoyable, it’ll also encourage fans to return next season.
We understand that your club won’t necessarily have the same budget as an Premier League team, but there’s plenty you can do to power-up your game.
Effects can be programmed
All of our effects are controlled remotely, some displays are fired manually and some are fired to a pre-designed script, to match a hype video or piece of music. Programming special effects to be fired in time to music is a great way to enhance your display. This works perfectly for team entrances, where your favourite walk-on song can be made more exciting with the addition of flame jets, sparks and smoke that have been programmed to fire to the beat.
The best special effects for sporting events
Smoke machines
Theatrical smoke creates a great effect, whether it’s by creating a smoky haze through which your players can make a dramatic entry, jets shooting smoke into the air whenever there’s a goal / try / significant moment in the action, or a mixture of smoky effects for the presentations. It doesn’t matter if yours is an indoor or outdoor event, smoke effects will make things look amazing!

Flame machines
For outdoor events where there’s enough space to use them safely, flames can really add thrills to the action. Used singly or in fan formations, flame effects are a great way to celebrate the great moments during the match – what better way of wowing the crowd than with a blast of fire!
Flying sparks
If you’d love to have flame jets but can’t because of safety concerns, Sparkulars are the perfect solution. Also called a cold spark machine, they operate at a much lower temperature than flames or traditional pyrotechnics. This means you don’t need to create such a large safety zone between the effects machine and any people.
Confetti for the presentation
A safer – but messier – option is to release huge blasts of confetti to create spectacle and excitement. However, you need to remember that, unlike flames, smoke or sparks, you’ll have a lot of clearing up to do afterwards! And for that reason, sports grounds may not allow the use of even biodegradable confetti on their grass.
Safety first
All special effects come with an element of risk, so while they create an amazing spectacle, safety should be your number one priority. A risk assessment must be undertaken, the equipment is industry-certified and operated by people who have been professionally trained.
