It doesn’t matter if you’re organising large festival events, sports events, entertainment shows or theatrical events, you’re always looking for a way of providing the wow factor. And there’s no effect more likely to impress than seeing your favourite stars emerging from clouds of smoke, or having an anthemic song punctuated by bursts of smoke. This is why CO2 jet hire is so popular with event organisers.
The big reveal
Smoke effects are perfect for the big reveal. If you’re old enough to remember Stars in Their Eyes, you’ll know exactly what we mean. As the smoke begins to disperse, you get tantalising glimpses of the person behind it, leaving you guessing for a couple of seconds – or congratulating yourself on knowing who it is straight away – which adds more showmanship to the whole event excitement. A great thing to have at the beginning of any event.
One particularly effective way we used CO2 jets was for the introductions at the Ultimate Strongman contest. As each contestant was introduced, the organisers wanted them to appear from a fog of smoke, but it was an outdoor event which meant there was a likelihood that any wind on the day would quickly disperse smoke from a smoke machine and spoil the tension. So we put two CO2 jets on their sides and blew plumes of smoke along the stage floor. The powerful jets provided enough smoke to completely cover each contestant as they stepped up to their mark, then revealed them slowly as the smoke disappeared.
Power jets add twice the excitement
CO2 power jets can blow a plume of smoke up to 15 metres high adding even more drama to events. If you want to heighten the excitement of, say, a goal at a football match, make a visual emphasis on adrenaline pumping noise at a concert, or add a moody backdrop to a product launch or photo shoot, CO2 jet hire will be a great investment.
One of our most memorable jobs was working with Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff at the Livewire Festival. Big stars at a big event need big special effects and this was a hugely ambitious job. We combined CO2 power jets with pyrotechnics and flames to create a high impact with hugely exciting multiple effects. The audience loved them, and they made the stars very happy too and a great night was had by all. Click here to see our special effects in action.
Going super sonic
If you want to up the ante, talk to us about sonic boom jets. These superchargers can produce virtually instantaneous jets of dense smoke up to 15 metres, delivering smoke faster and higher than any other smoke jet on the market. The jet has a unique pressure system that results in a consistent smoke effect, and with different coloured lights, you can add even more elements to the overall effect.
Versatile smoke jets
Smoke jets don’t need to be confined to shooting upwards or sideways. And they don’t need to be just white. The Magic FX Smoke Jet is a hugely versatile piece of equipment and will not only operate at any angle (upwards, downwards or sideways), but can also add colour thanks to different coloured LED lights. It’s controlled remotely and is small and convenient enough to be installed almost anywhere, including on the rigging.
