Women's Rugby World Cup

Flames, Pyro & Confetti across 8 stadiums

THE BRIEF

As you may know, we love stadium shows, so when we were asked to provide the effects for all 32 matches at the Women’s Rugby World Cup being hosted in England, we jumped at the chance. The effects required at each stage varied, but were all leading up to the climactic final played at Twickenham between England and Canada.

THE CHALLENGE

We were tasked with providing effects across the full fixture list covering 32 matches across 8 stadiums spanning as far north as Sunderland, to as far south as Exeter. We had to consider the logistics of how we were going to organise crew and equipment, as well as create unique shows that could be safely delivered across the various venues. We had a number of meetings with the production team which distilled our plans, considering many topics from safety to design to final delivery.

THE SOLUTION

All the shows were designed with split second precision in order to maximise the impact, slowly upping the ante as the tournament progressed. From the group stages with 4 G-Flames, to the final at Twickenham where we went to town with 32 points of roof pyro, 9 x L-Flames, 8 points of pitch pyro and a large streamer hit. Check out the highlights reel on the right and the full trophy presentation below.

THE RESULT

The tournament was a huge success for the Red Roses as they took the trophy, what a performance! For us as the special effects provider, all of the effects went down well with the crowd, where flames, pyrotechnics and streamers enhanced the tournament at every stage.
