THE BRIEF
We love to chat with our clients and throw creative ideas about how to enhance the pre-match hype. The team at Scottish Rugby are always open to suggestions, we proposed the concept of creating a Saltire using smoke mines as part of the pre-match show.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to get the flag to look correct, otherwise there would just be a mess of smoke in the air. We had to take into account how the smoke mines react to wind and gravity. We also needed to be sure that none of the products would fail, as this could jeopardise the visual.
THE SOLUTION
It took a lot of planning, and we experimented at length with a variety of angles of the St Andrew’s cross. We also varied the quantity of smoke mines required to create a powerful Saltire, whilst sticking within the clients budget. As you’ll notice below we got through a fair few smoke mines!
THE RESULT
The Saltire was used as a response to the imposing Haka (video below). Scotland were almost rewarded with their first win in 120 years of fixtures between the two teams. A defiant comeback wasn’t enough to victor over a strong All Black side, finishing 25-17.
