THE BRIEF
RHS Wisley has held their Glow event for a few years, and we’ve been lucky enough to work alongside their lighting team. Each year we meet on site with the RHS staff and lighting designers to look at the route they have planned and understand what sort of effect / mood they are looking to create. The evenings run from late November through until early January each year. Visitors enter the gardens after dusk to witness the transformation and follow a trail through the different areas of the site.
We have supplied a number of different Fountain and Fire effects over the years in two different bodies of water on site. The largest one is the glasshouse pond at the bottom of the gardens. This is a large D shaped manmade pond, that has a large glass house at the back. We have installed our fountain jets in a row along the front of the glass house and another time around the perimeter of the curved pond edge.
The lake was viewed from a path slightly higher with the illuminated glass house behind. Our jets added some movement and bought the lake alive. We also incorporated our flame jets that were choreographed to the music track that a number of moving lights were also programmed to. The short sequence ran on a loop each evening allowing guests to pause, watch the show and then move onto the next area of the gardens.
On other occasions we have installed our jets in the long and narrow pond in front of the lab building. The jets rose from the dark water, illuminated as they fire into the nights sky. Guests walked around the pond before they existed the trail allowing the sequence to be viewed from all angles. The flame jets were positioned on the pond in amongst the fountain jets, creating playful reflections on the water. The fountains are some of the most photographed installations, and are enjoyed by all ages.
DAYLIGHT FOUNTAINS
Having worked with the team at Wisley for a number of years we agreed to install the fountains during the summer for daylight use. So many of the season ticket holders visit the gardens all year round to enjoy the ever changing scenes.
In order to add another change to the gardens, our fountains were installed adjacent to the glass house. We programmed the variety of jets and shapes to create a range of patterns and sequences. They bring the ponds to life and when the sun shines the jets catch the light to create a stunning effect.
We find the visitors enjoy the fountains at all times of day, whilst walking past the lakes, or whilst sitting enjoying their lunch.
There are endless combinations of jet configurations, depending on the viewing areas and proximity to the water. Each floating module can contain up to 3 different nozzles / effects. The computer control then turns them on and off in runs a program to create choreographed sequences. Check out a selection of photos and a video from RHS Wisley below!
