ARSENAL F.C – LEAVING THE FIELD

THE BRIEF

Most major football stadiums may appear the same, but for us they often offer a wide variety of challenges. In recent years we’ve been spending quite a lot of time at the Emirates, the home of Arsenal FC, providing flames in a variety of formations for both Men’s and Women’s fixtures. This particular case study focuses on the challenges faced by our crew on the ground, mostly relating to access.

CHALLENGE

We fire our show as the teams walk out, and our crew along with all equipment needs to be clear of the field of play before Kick off. To complicate this further, a digital advertising screen blocks the shortest exit route. Therefore the route out is longer and involves crew walking our equipment around the back of the goal.

SOLUTION

  • Stopping firing the show early to ensure the crew are off in time.
  • Opting to use 15m single jets and 5-Finger liquid flames in sturdy wheeled flight cases for a quick exit.
  • Hiring additional crew to collect pitch protection & fire extinguishers.
  • Planning a safe and fast exit route.

A digital advertising screen covers the closest exit point, so we have to navigate crew and equipment behind the goal at the Clock End of the Emirates. Adjustments have been made to ensure a rapid departure, which enables us to be off the turf before kick off.

RESULT

The flames were a great success, our team and all equipment was safely clear of the pitch in time for kick off, despite the long exit route, not delaying the start of the match.

Our flames are shown as red dots, exit route is shown in blue.
