THE BRIEF
To provide confetti, streamers and stage pyro for the UK leg of the Worldwide Jay Chou Carnival Tour 2024.
CHALLENGE
We received the enquiry over the Christmas break, with the first show on the 8th of January so the timeline was tight. At that point in time we didn’t have enough kit or consumables on the shelf, nor had we set out a plan for the show to be designed and programmed.
Another barrier to overcome was that of language whilst on site; they were Taiwanese and spoke very little English.
After speaking with the client via email we soon realised that some very quick changeovers were required. This meant our team would have a very tight window to re-fill our Stadium Shot III and Stadium Blower machines with confetti and streamers.
SOLUTION
We purchased more equipment to ensure the job could go ahead, and ordered all the consumables which arrived with us just in the nick of time.
The client had a translator on site and we utilised the show running order to highlight which effects were coming up next – the show director wanted to fire everything so it would be exactly when he wanted it so we lined the cues up on two separate firing panels (one for confetti and one for pyro) and signalled when the cue was ready – relying on non verbal communication (it was also very loud!).
To facilitate a fast confetti/streamer changeover, we lowered the fill pressure (on our Stadium Shot III’s – to the minimum suggested by the supplier) to reduce the refill time. We laid out and numbered the confetti & streamers we needed to fill the stadium shots, so it was clear for the crew in the pit what needed to happen next.
RESULT
Everything arrived on time and resulted in a spectacular show of confetti, streamers and pyro which elevated the show.
No cues were missed and we managed to refill 12 stadium shots in 3 minutes using only 4 crew, ready to fire again. All of this resulted in a very happy client, check out some of the highlights below!
